Introduction
3D scanning provides an accurate, rapid, and cost-effective method for acquiring high-quality three-dimensional data of any object. This versatile method has established itself as the standard for applications such as:
- Creating topographic maps and relief models
- Producing orthophoto mosaics
- Measuring distances, areas, and volumes
- Documentation and construction oversight
- Generating cadastral maps
- Monitoring environmental processes (e.g., coastal erosion)
- Developing detailed 3D models
- Inspecting buildings and infrastructure
- Digitizing cultural and historical heritage sites
- Object visualization for various platforms
- Building virtual worlds
- Integrating real-world assets into gaming and VR applications
Technical Execution
We perform 3D scanning using photogrammetry, a scientific method that leverages the parallax effect between photographs taken from various positions. This approach, combined with modern digital technologies, precise GPS receivers, and automated, consistent surveying capabilities, delivers highly accurate results and has become the industry standard for acquiring three-dimensional data. We possess extensive experience in capturing and processing large volumes of this data; our largest single scan covers an area exceeding 17 \(\text{km}^{2}\). Our optimized capture and processing workflows guarantee accurate and rapid results for every project.
Results
3D scanning allows for the production of the following end products:
- Dense Point Cloud: A multitude of points in 3D space that describe the object's shape—this is the foundational output of the photogrammetry reconstruction process.
- Digital Elevation Model (DEM): Topographic information about the earth's surface, recorded in a coordinate system that enables precise determination of geographic coordinates and elevation for every point.
- Orthomosaic Image: A distortion-free, geometrically corrected image composed of multiple photographs. It has a uniform scale and functions as an accurate map.
- 3D Model: A realistic 3D representation of the scanned object, suitable for measuring distances, areas, or volumes. It can be textured for use in visualizations or computer games.
- Textured 3D Model: Images applied to the model to achieve maximum photo-realism during visualization.
- Measurement and Analysis: The collected 3D data can be analyzed for precise measurements of lengths, areas, volumes, slopes, and more.
